Tasting Notes
This is a round juicy wine that coats the palate with layers of ripe-earthy-savory brilliance. The aromas offer everything from sage and cigar tobacco to leather and fresh english plum, on the palate it is lush and expansive, with tons of dark fruit and baking spice, the finish carries through with fine tannins, and lingering dark fruit flavors.
Vineyard Notes
Pope Valley Winery is located in the northeastern hills just beyond Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. Our two estate vineyards with a combined 80 planted acres, at the winery and our Eakle Ranch vineyard, yield rich distinctive wines characteristic of the terroir. Our wines showcase the mineral complexity of the soils -Pleasanton loam and Bressa-Dibble complex.
Winemaker Notes
We hand harvest the fruit early in the morning, it came to the winery where it was processed and underwent a 6 day cold-soak to facilitate upfront extraction. The Merlot was fermented in two tanks, one with moderate peak temperature for freshness, and one with higher temperature for richness and concentration.
