The true hallmark of this wine is its melon-core. While most roses rely upon up-front berry flavors, our fruit yields more nuanced cantaloupe, casaba, and Bosc pear. A delightful summer wine, though one that demands serious attention.
These vineyards yield rich fruit forward wines characteristic of the terroir. Pope Valley vineyards are located in the North-Eastern hills of the Vaca Mountains in a town called Pope Valley within the Napa Valley Appellation. The soil is a pleaston loam with areas of a Bressa-Dibble complex. Pope Valley is a warm growing climate with cool evenings and mornings which allow the grapes to hang on the vine long enough to ripen to their fullest potential and cool enough at nights to develop complex varietal aromas.
Half the fruit was gently foot-macerated and held for three hours prior to pressing, while the other half was pressed whole-cluster. After setting the juice for twenty hours, clean juice was racked off lees and inoculated. The wine was fermented at 57 F for 35 days in order to better express its melon/red berry characters.
