Tasting Notes
This wine knocks it out of the park! The nose has aromas of violet and a subtle earthy, herbaceousness . The palate is a symphony of textures and flavors, balancing dark ripe cherry, warm savory notes and dusty cocoa, intertwined with fine structure that is somewhere between delicate and powerful. The final impression is one of persisting flavor and old world grace.
Vineyard Notes
Pope Valley winery is located in the northeast hills just beyond Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. Our two estate vineyards with a combined 80 planted acres, at the winery and our Eakle Ranch vineyard yield rich and distinctive wines characteristic of the terroir.
Winemaker Notes
The fruit was harvested on a cold morning. We destemmed into an open-top fermenter for a seven day cold soak followed by warm fermentation with frequent punch downs. Upon pressing, the wine was racked to French oak barrels, of which 25% were new, where it rested for 24 months prior to bottling.
