Garrett originally hails from Northern New Jersey—an area of the country more known for great pizza and Taylor Ham than Zinfandel. He enrolled in Roanoke College, where he majored in Biochemistry and enjoyed a lucrative Division-III track and field career. When he decided to forego a career path in medicine, his Italian professor guided him towards winemaking, where he immediately found his passion. In 2006, he loaded his life into the back of his Ford Escape and drove west, settling in Fresno, California. Garrett earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Enology from Fresno State and worked for some large and even larger Central Valley wineries before making the move to Mendocino in 2012. Feeling the need to have a more hands-on winemaking roll, he was a part of a high-end Pinot Noir outfit in the Russian River Valley prior to arriving at Pope Valley Winery in 2018. Drawn by the allure and romance of the family-owned farm, Garrett is excited to be a part of the team that is championing precision farming and high-quality winemaking in a region that will soon garner much-deserved attention.
He currently resides in Napa with his wife Corey and their two (eventual) dogs Harry and Lloyd. When Garrett is not at the winery (which is rare), he spends his time reading, roasting coffee, listening to Springsteen on vinyl, and cooking—especially pizza.
