Greg Gallagher, Winemaker
Born and raised in the Napa Valley, Greg
Gallagher is a fifth generation Californian. After high
school, Greg ventured south to San Luis Obispo, where he
discovered his passion for making fine wine. Greg found
himself focusing on pinot noir production on California's
Central Coast. Under the guidance of renowned and
established winemakers, Greg began producing his own wine at
21 years of age.
"I've always been lucky to have great
mentors," Greg says, "I have been trained by some of the
best in the industry. At one point I was making wines using
artesian techniques with 31 different varietals from seven
different appellations." Working with such a diverse
spectrum of wines, Greg was able to develop his own style of
winemaking from a culmination of his experiences.
Returning to the Napa Valley in the spring
of 2006, Greg took over the winemaking operation at Pope
Valley Winery. After several years of enjoying, collecting,
and making wine, Greg's developed a refined feel for the
elements needed to produce a boutique wine. "I try to let
the varietal flavors and terroir express themselves through
the wine." Greg is now making estate wines from Pope Valley
where he oversees the production from grape to bottle.
